Wolves and salmon will be on the agenda Friday when the Oregon Fish and Wildlife Commission meets in Salem.

The meeting starts at 8 a.m. Friday in the Commission Room at Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife headquarters, 4034 Fairview Industrial Drive SE.


House Bill 3452 was passed by the 2013 Oregon Legislature and signed into law by Gov. John Kitzhaber. It removes the permit requirements for the killing of wolves caught in the act of biting, wounding or killing livestock or working dogs under certain circumstances.


Permits have been issued by the department in the past, said Michelle Dennehy, the department’s wildlife communications coordinator, but to date, none have been used because wolves avoid people, so catching them attacking is difficult.
